Overall responsibility
The Senior Civil & Structural Engineer will be responsible for designing structures that fulfil the requirements of the company’s clients; structures that remain safe, economic and functioning throughout its intended lifetime.
The duties & responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Get involved in the investigation and survey of build sites to determine the suitability of the earth for the requirements of the upcoming project
- Analyze configurations of the basic components of a structure
- Calculate the pressures, loads, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such as weather or earthquakes; Use computer simulations to predict how structures will react under different conditions
- Consider the strength of various materials, e.g. timber, concrete, steel and brick, to see how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design
- Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction
- Examine structures at risk of collapse and advise how to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or rebuilding the entire structure
- Make drawings, specifications and computer models of structures
- liaise with the construction service providers to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound
- Use computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes and to develop design ideas
- Work closely on construction plans with clients, architects, and other professionals
- Ensure that projects meet legal guidelines, environmental directives, and health and safety requirements
- Support the relevant departments and companies in the preparation of bids for tenders
- Submit reports as per operational, legal and administrative requirements.

The Senior Civil & Structural Engineer reports to the General Manager or to any other person as may be designated by Management.
Job and Profile requirements:
- Degree in Structural Engineering (essential).
- Valid registration with CRPE.
- 10 years of work experience as a Structural Engineer (essential).
- Advanced knowledge of construction methods, materials and legal regulations.
- Ability to liaise with professionals from other disciplines.
- Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail with the strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and IT skills.
- Conversant with Revit, Autocad
