General Manager

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced General Manager to lead IDEA Consultants Ltd a subsidiary of the Evaco Group.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing operations, overseeing project execution, and driving business development initiatives.

This role requires a strategic leader with a robust understanding of operational and financial management, risk assessment, and team development.

The General Manager should drive innovation and sustainability in the engineering practices, while keeping ahead of current industry trends.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Structure, manage, and develop departments under IDEA Consultants Ltd to support the Evaco Group and its subsidiaries.
  • Drive and foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Oversee and direct production projects for Evaco Group and external customers, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards and ensure compliance with all regulatory and safety standards.
  • Prepare and validate the annual business plan, along with long & short-term operational and financial plans, in collaboration with the Group CEO. Monitor performance of the management approved plans, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Provide the relevant technical and operational support to Management on the practicality of projects and ensure alignment with the strategic objectives.
  • Manage contractor coordination and conduct regular site visits to ensure project progress, adherence to quality control measures, and adherence to budget.
  • Set up and oversee procedures for project execution, including staffing and resource allocation.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal departments, service providers, contractors, customers, and ensuring compliance with safety and health procedures, while fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Maximize income and minimize costs while establishing effective Standard Operating Procedures to reduce risks and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct progress reviews and prepare regular reports for the Group CEO. Provide actionable insights based on these reviews.

Business Development:

  • Identify and pursue business growth opportunities that align with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and clients to foster new business partnerships.
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to stay ahead of industry trends and create competitive strategies. Identify emerging market opportunities.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to promote service offerings and enhance company visibility.
  • Collaborate with the management team to establish sales targets and increase revenue streams.

Risk management

  • Maximize income and minimize costs where possible and appropriate.
  • Ensure that the proper Standard Operating Procedures are set up to mitigate any risks of fraudulent/inaccurate transactions; train the personnel under your care to this effect.

People Management

  • Ensure the effective management of the personnel under your responsibility and promote a positive work culture;
  • Liaise with the HR Department on a regular basis for a proper monitoring of all employees’ related issues and relevant action taking. Ensure compliance with HR policies.;
  • Identify recruitment requirements and work with the HR department for the candidates’ search and selection;
  • Identify the training & development needs of employees and ensure that the proper actions are taken accordingly. Promote continuous professional development.;
  • Maintain positively the team’s job results by counselling and disciplining employees as well as monitoring and appraising them. Implementation and roll out of performance management systems.;
  • Ensure that employees follow the company standards, policies and strategies as well as fostering a culture of accountability.;
  • Fully assist the HR department in the elaboration of Key Performance Indicators, which are aligned with the organizational goals, for the staff under your responsibility as well as the subsequent implementation, monitoring and assessment phase.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business Administration, Management, Engineering, or a related field; an MBA is preferred.
  • Registered Engineer, ideally with the Council of Registered Engineers Mauritius in either Civil/Structural Engineering or any Building Services Engineering discipline
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a managerial role, preferably in consultancy, project management, or related industries.
  • Proficient in BIM Tools such as Revit.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects, teams, and budgets.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, business development,  operational efficiencies and strategic planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Ability to present technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyse complex problems and propose effective/innovative solutions.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships, as well as engage with stakeholders at all levels.
