Estimator (Timber)

Duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct estimation of materials, manufacturing/fabrication time, labour costs, including any other development costs (e.g., fabrication of new components).
  • Estimation of repairs, changes, or modifications, newly or partially fabrication of components as a result of specification revisions.
  • Excellent understanding of plans, and requirements for each task or project.
  • Knowledge in materials costing and estimation for trades related to primarily wood/timber, good knowledge for other trades such as aluminium and metal.
  • Prepares quotations by analysing requirements, scope of work, technical drawings and associated specifications.
  • Estimate times, calculate supplies and work with the procurement section for pricing and availability of materials.
  • Prepare quotes, liaise with Manager for review and approval, send quotes to clients and ensure follow-up.
  • Pre-tendering preparation and post-tendering follow-up, liaise with operations team for any adjustment or modifications.
  • Issuance of progress claim on a timely manner.
  • Follow-up with main contractor/client for issuance of IPC.
  • Assist team members on tasks/projects to ensure efficient operations and to ensure targets are met.
  • Efficient use of company resources and control expenses to meet budgetary controls.
  • Oversee the different stages of task/project to ensure that expenses follow the forecasted plan.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimate reports and other dashboards where required
  • Any other duties related to the post.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Estimator primarily for Timber/Wood.
  • Knowledge in other trades (aluminium, metal) would be a definite advantage.
  • Ability to prepare quotations, tenders, and accurate follow-up skills.
  • IT proficient with excellent command of MS Office and strong formulae input/calculations on excel.
  • Good analytical skills, accurate costing and estimation skills and eye for details.
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written – English and French.
  • Ability to deal with contractors, clients in a professional manner.
  • Ability to keep track of work progress and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to read plans, blueprints, and any other wooden structures/designs.
  • Proficient on working on multiple projects.
  • Flexible in working hours.
  • Honest, punctual and professional in approach.
